MaDiH (مديح) Project April 2020: Update from the Team
What is currently in the works and what is next for the project.

Despite the disruption of our ‘normal’ work arrangements caused by the current Covid-19 pandemic, the MaDiH (مديح) Project Team in Jordan and UK are hard at work!
We have identified a total of 313 datasets owned by 132 ‘organisations’ that will be made public on the MaDiH (مديح) repository over the next 12 months, accompanied by social media and website (madih-jordan.org/) communications in Arabic and English. 92 datasets, 117 ‘organisations’, and 20 ‘groups’ are already public in the repository.
The protocol for dataset identification, of which a draft had been presented at the October 2019 workshop at the CBRL in Amman, and a repository user guide have now been published in English and Arabic in the zenodo.org/ research repository and are all open access. The Research Software Engineering (RSE) training delivered during the July 2019 workshops has been recently published on the European DARIAH CAMPUS discovery framework. Six conference papers have been accepted at international conferences, of which two have been delivered, one at RSE2019 and the other at BANEA2020. Our Jordanian team members have also contributed Arabic translations to the ckan.org open source project, which will be available for private, commercial, and government users worldwide.
Two more MaDiH (مديح) workshops are planned, including one that was scheduled for March 2020 and now postponed due to COVID-19, as well as a ‘hackathon’ that will be led by the Jordan Open Source Association (JOSA) and involve participants from universities and the technology sector in November 2020.
81 stakeholders from 46 organisations across the Jordanian cultural heritage, research, education, government, NGO, and technology sectors have shared their feedback and experiences at the October 2019 workshop in Amman. Since then, MaDiH (مديح) has quickly become a network of researchers and cultural heritage professionals. MaDiH (مديح)’s promise is to, identify and aggregatE content produced by (and stored in) many countries over many decades so that the Jordanian and the international public and cultural heritage and research communities can access, research, and explore their heritage whether they are in Jordan or overseas.
Our datasets collection is still ongoing and we would welcome your feedback on the MaDiH (مديح) repository submitted via our anonymous survey form, available both in Arabic and English as this will guide us in current and future development of the repository. The Research Team has produced a tutorial video to facilitate navigation and use of the repository.
